Common Data Environment
A managed source of information used to collect, manage and distribute relevant, approved project information for multidisciplinary teams. A Common Data Environment (CDE) is often supported by a [[Document Management System]] that facilitates information sharing among [[Project Participant]]s. Information within a CDE carries an agreed status or resides in an area such as [[Work in Progress Area]], [[Shared Area]], [[Published Area]] or [[Archive Area]].

A class of software solution or service that performs or supports [[Asset Information Orchestration]]: mapping information purposes to [[Information Requirement]]s and deliverables, assigning responsibilities to roles, and coordinating exchanges between systems (e.g. a [[Common Data Environment]], an [[Asset Management System]] or an [[Asset Information Model]]) across the [[Asset Life Cycle]]. The term denotes a category of solution, not a specific product; any tool, platform or service that coordinates lifecycle information flows in this way is an asset information orchestrator

Asset Information Orchestration (AIO) names both an activity and a category of solution. It differs from storing information (e.g. in a [[Common Data Environment]]) and from authoring it (e.g. in a [[BIM Software Tool]]) in that its object is the flow of information between roles, systems and lifecycle phases rather than the information itself.
