Information Lifecycle
The full duration that Information is usable. The Information Lifecycle may span a single or multiple Information Cycles. An Information Cyle is different than an Asset Life Cycle as the Information about an Asset may persist even if the Asset is decommissioned, demolished, or no longer available
- Asset Life Cycle
Refers to all asset phases: from planning, through design, construction and use/maintenance till disposal. Asset Life Cycle phases are typically used for establishing change in asset utilization, depreciation, Life Cycle Cost, Life Cycle Expenditure, and Life Cycle Assessment
- Information
The facts provided or learned about events, things, processes or concepts that has a particular meaning within a certain context [adapted from the Oxford Dictionary and ISO/IEC 2382-1:1993]
- Information Cycle
A single revolution of Information along an Information Route back to the Information Milestone that it started from. For example, if an asset is reused three times, its information has completed three Information Cycles
- Information Flow
The movement of Information within and between Information Milestones throughout the Asset Life Cycle. In the LITE framework, information may flow in four directions: Forward Flow (counter-clockwise) representing Execution Actions; Reverse Flow (clockwise) representing Measurement Actions; Inward Flow (into the Information Pool) representing Capturing Actions; and Outward Flow representing Sharing Actions
- Information Milestone
A marker along an Information Route. In the LITE framework, there are eight Information Milestones that Information may pass through: [1] Intent to Deliver New Assets; [2] Expected Physical Deliverables; [3] Targeted Digital Deliverables; [4] Needed Resources and Methods; [5] Available Resources and Methods; [6] Actual Digital Assets; [7] Actual Physical Assets; and [8] Intent to Reuse Existing Assets
- Information Pool
An online database for collating and integrating information throughout an Asset Life Cycle. A unified Information Pool is progressively populated by Information collated through Information Sets
- Information Route
The path that Information travels along depending on the Degree of Automation. In the LITE framework, there are three potential Information Routes: [Route I] Assisted Flow (the longest route); [Route II] Automated and Automatic Flows (instigated by an Actor or Trigger Event respectively); and [Route III] Autonomous Flow (the shortest route)
- Information State
Information generated and exchanged throughout the Information Lifecycle has three Information States: Defined Purposes, Defined Deliverables, or Defined Resources and Methods
- Life Cycle
The whole "life of the asset from the definition of its requirements to the termination of its use, covering it conception, development, operation, maintenance support and disposal" ISO 19650-1 (3.2.10). In addition to Assets, the term 'life cycle' (or lifecycle) can also cover Information Lifecycle, Product Lifecycle, and Project Lifecycle Phases
- Lifecycle Extender
The Information Route section that extends the Project Lifecycle into an Asset Life Cycle (links Information Milestones [7] and [8]). In the LITE Framework, this is achieved by accounting for all Information Actions covering the utilisation of Assets
- LITE framework
The Lifecycle Information Transformation and Exchange (LITE) framework is an open and expandable conceptual structure for designing, delivering, and utilising assets of any type or scale. The LITE framework consists of overlapping components including information states, routes, flows, gates, loops, actions, and sets. The framework is applied through tools that perform Asset Information Orchestration, of which the LITE application is one example.
